Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer, inspired this collection. She recognised the connection between the Jacquard loom and the Analytical engine and realised that the computer could be used for so much more than just number crunching. She wrote that the Analytical Engine “weaves algebraic patterns, just as the Jacquard loom weaves flowers and leaves.” Femme in STEM is a celebration of that lineage and a celebration of all women in STEM.
